Our Baby, Toddler and Pre-School rooms

It cannot be underestimated how quickly your child grows at this age. With their development comes the need to move and explore, making life an adventure playground.

Baby Room

It cannot be underestimated how quickly your child grows at this age. With their development comes the need to move and explore, making life an adventure playground.

At this age, your child’s rapid physical growth is accompanied by an intense sensitivity to language. Long before your child has spoken their first words, he or she has developed a love for hearing people talking, with a special excitement when that discussion is about them and their discoveries.

This is a general guide to our daily routine, it is however dependent on each individual child’s needs and therefore we can be flexible.

Toddler Room

Your child is now enjoying new opportunities for exercise and exploration, seizing new challenges and activities as their curiosity and coordination continue to grow.

He or she is starting to show self-selection, with relationship skills emerging. Encouraged by the attentive, warm care of the My Sunshine Day Nursery team, your child’s sense of self and expression becomes more prominent, while your child’s first words are spoken with confidence, quickly growing into a lively vocabulary.

Pre School

From make-believe games to construction and creative tasks, sharing and co-operating are now a big part of the way your child plays. It is important to grow these new skills while offering a structured environment that prepares your child for school.

During this time, your child requires care and warmth balanced with opportunities for independence, allowing them to stretch their literacy and numeracy abilities.

We prepare our Pre-School children ready for their big adventure to school. They will have more responsibility throughout the day to help increase their independence in preparing them for school. We encourage children’s independence with more responsibility such as special jobs or helper tasks through the usual routine and by setting more challenging tasks.

All Pre-School Children have their own special book where we record all of their writing/mark making and pencil control. As the children learn more about going to school, we will help with their transition by having regular group discussions, about their new school and sharing their own experiences from their school settles.

Outdoor Space

We have outdoor garden space on the ground floor for our Babies and Toddlers. Our Toddler Room has free-flow access to this all day and our Babies go out to play several times a days. The garden space is surrounded by 3m high acoustic secure fencing and offers many learning features including blackboards, number area as well as a mud kitchen and sand pit. Our Pre-Schoolers enjoy the use of a first-floor balcony garden covered in artificial grass and with a workbench and covered reading area.

Each day the children in all rooms have the opportunity to use their Outdoor Space. This aids in their development of an active lifestyle through direct physical activity, freedom and movement and through promoting an important sense of wellbeing. Being outside also provides the children with a connection to the natural world and the experience of direct contact with the weather and the seasons. Playing and learning outside helps the children to understand and respect nature, as well as the environment and the life-cycle of humans, animals and plants.

Our Nursery is also located in close proximity to Mortlake Green and the River Thames Path and we make full use of these facilities throughout the year and especially in the summer.
